High School
With the High School curriculum, students have the ability to explore a variety of Art Course Electives; ranging from Film Production in the Urban Film School, Studio Art, Music Recording in the B and R Recording Studio, to Interpretive Dance on a sprung dance floor. Students enjoy an array of arts based learning by respected Professionals in their individual fields of study.
For High School Grades 9-12 we have introduced smaller learning communities of schools-within-the-school to even better address the needs and interests of our diverse student population; and to strengthen academic understanding through differentiated tutoring (based on performance-related data centers). Within our Academies we have placed an emphasis on Mathematics and Science with each respective teacher being the Academy Leaders of these grade levels.
The Math and Science class homerooms become retreats, outside of students’ scheduled class times. Students not only come to learn concepts and lessons in Math and Science, but feel comfortable in a nurturing atmosphere with themselves and their peers. This concept has created a better report between Math and Science teachers and the student body. Through this model we have seen that this academy environment makes students feel more family oriented, while being more nurtured and safe the students tend to be more open to exploration, gain self-confidence, and tend to thrive at a higher level.
