Middle School
Students attending the San Antonio School for Inquiry and Creativity Junior High (7th and 8th Grade) flourish in traditional and non-traditional learning environments. The Relaxation Room within the Junior High building allows students to study in a lofty room decorated with a wide variety of eccentric fittings and contemporary furniture. This site specific project is designed to help our at-risk students find the joy of reading again. San Antonio School for Inquiry and Creativity’s goal is to bring the outdoors-inside creating a safe, peaceful environment conducive to a creative learning style. Institutional Case Studies and Evaluation Procedures elucidate that this kind of non-traditional learning environment enhances the educational experience for our at-risk and underprivileged children.
The 7th and 8th Grade teachers want to bring the love of reading back into the student’s everyday life. San Antonio School is doing this by executing something simple- bringing the outdoors inside. We are creating a sanctuary inside the walls of our school. Decorating the inside of this classroom are contemporary lounge furniture, chimes, natural walls with outdoor scenes and fountains; creating a peaceful and inviting area for students to be restored-mentally. It is a place for the students to want to come and visit to learn. This unique Junior High environment fashions an area where the students know they can have access to an unrestricted educational experiences while enhancing their creativity and learning. Elsewhere, computer labs and student activity areas intertwine with the relaxed learning environment while the instructor incorporates her own special humor and enjoyment into student assignments.
